As the New Year rolls in, many of us set ambitious resolutions focused on exercise, wellness, and personal development.

However, achieving these goals can often feel overwhelming.

In this post, we are going to explore five practical hacks to maximize your New Year’s resolution goals.

Let's dive in!

1. Goals, Practices, and Daily Actions

To effectively pursue your resolutions, start by defining your overarching goals.

Break these down into specific practices and daily actions that will help you achieve them.

For example, if your goal is to improve fitness, your practices might include getting 3-4 workouts per week, while daily actions could involve scheduling workouts and meal prepping healthy snacks.

Take time to outline your resolutions and categorize them into goals, practices, and daily actions.

This structured approach not only clarifies your objectives but also creates a clear pathway to integrate these actions into your daily routine.

In doing this, it won't be a matter of "if", but a matter of "when".

2. Create a Routine

Building a consistent routine is crucial for sustaining your resolutions.

Whether it’s a morning workout, a daily meditation practice, or setting aside time for personal development, establishing a routine helps integrate these activities into your daily life.

Designate specific times for your activities and stick to them.

Use a planner or digital calendar to schedule your workouts, wellness practices, and personal growth activities, treating them like important appointments you can’t miss.

3. Find an Accountability Partner

Having someone to share your goals with can significantly increase your chances of success.

An accountability partner can provide encouragement, share progress, and keep you motivated during challenging times.

Reach out to a friend or join a group that shares similar goals.

Regular check-ins—whether in person or through messaging—can help keep both of you on track and foster a supportive environment.

4. Celebrate EVERY Win

Celebrating your achievements, no matter how small, is essential for maintaining motivation.

Recognizing progress helps reinforce positive behavior and encourages you to keep pushing toward your larger goals.

Set milestones along your journey and reward yourself when you reach them.

This could be treating yourself to a day out, enjoying a favorite meal, or buying something special.

Celebrating these wins makes the journey enjoyable and keeps you motivated.

5. Stay Flexible and Reassess

Life is unpredictable, and sometimes your initial goals may need adjusting.

Staying flexible and willing to reassess your goals can help you overcome obstacles and stay on track, rather than feeling discouraged when things don’t go as planned.

Regularly reflect on your progress and be open to modifying your goals if needed.

If you find certain workouts aren’t enjoyable or a wellness practice isn’t fitting into your schedule, tweak them to better suit your lifestyle and preferences.

6. Look Back At Your Progress

Regularly reviewing your progress and celebrating your wins can be incredibly motivating.

Keep constant reminders of what you've achieved and visualize where you want to go next.

This reflection reinforces your commitment and helps you stay focused on your goals.

Create a visual board or journal where you document your milestones and successes.

Take time each week or month to reflect on your journey, acknowledging the hard work you've put in and the progress you've made.

Your past successes can be leveraged to push for future wins.

For years, I've written down my workouts, sets and reps.

Looking back at where I was a month, a year, or even 5 years ago is really motivating.

7. Start Now

One of the biggest obstacles to achieving New Year’s resolutions is procrastination.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment to begin; the best time to start working toward your goals is now.

Taking immediate action, no matter how small, sets the tone for your commitment.

Identify one small step you can take today toward your goal—whether it’s a quick workout, a healthy meal prep, or reading a book for personal development.

By starting now, you build momentum and reinforce the habit of taking action.

When I used to be a coach, people who came to me before the New Year started had a higher probability of success.

They started early and built the foundation to have an incredible new year.

Before I started my fitness journey, I was dealing with large bouts of depression that I couldn't stand experiencing.

I felt like I had no control of my life.

It got so bad that I had thoughts of ending it all.

And then, one day, I decided to try and change something in my life.

I saw these incredible weight loss transformations, and decided to try weight loss.

Initially, I thought that was the ticket to happiness, and jumped at it.

I started to exercise... and I hated it.

It was grueling and it wasn't fun.

And then, I started to notice that I felt slightly better after my workouts for hours at a time.

Let me tell you about my friend Hahn.

Hahn is in his 50s and JACKED.

When I am grappling with him in Jiu-Jitsu, he is a fun roll because he's a friendly guy.

But when he locks in, he is one challenging roll.

While he consults with his doctor for additional solutions, he really dials in on 5 factors that are in his control that have helped him for years.

And for myself in my 30s, these 5 things are the only things I do that have been working extremely well for me.
